As most private classes are not able to provide as much socialisation as group classes, owners tend to shy away. At the same time, the risks of meeting a new dog whose personality and history you don’t know cannot be ignored.
Thus, our lead trainer, Kristina, created the structured socialisation programme for Puppy Colours.
In this programme, our trainers first get to know your pup: their personality, quirks and preferences. Then, an older puppy or dog with some level of training from our Montessori School will be selected to meet your pup.
As such, it is highly recommended to have some classes in-campus so that we can arrange for the structured socialisation during your private lesson(s).
Our trainers will choose a fitting playmate by selecting an older puppy or dog from our Montessori School that has a suitable social skill level and personality with your pup.
This will help maximise the chances of your pup having an positive and enjoyable experience. They will also be able to learn from other dogs who are more well-versed in polite greeting and play.
An older dog with some level of training can impart appropriate social skills to your pup. This teaches your pup how to interact with other dogs and people in a polite manner. They will also be able to learn how to ask for play and in return, to play nicely.
Play time doesn’t last forever too, so they will learn when it’s over. Concurrently, they’ll also learn when to back off when the other dog shows subtle body language, indicating that they are not keen to play — all within a controlled setting.
Understanding another dog’s body language is a potentially life-saving skill for your pup. If your pup is unable to understand the other dog’s disinterest or subtle signal to back off, the other dog could escalate the signal in order for them to put more distance between them and your pup. This could result in the chances of injury being higher.
